Meet the Founder

Wildhood School was founded by Kayla Hash, a mother, educator, and community builder rooted in the Boulder Valley of Colorado. Her work is guided by a deep reverence for childhood and a belief that the early years deserve to be held with true presence, intention, and care.

With over 15 years of experience working with children, Kayla has led community-centered spaces and designed programming as the Director of the Boys & Girls Clubhouse of the Redwoods, where she served as a steady, maternal presence within a community of over 80 children in need of stability, connection, and love. She has also worked closely with families, supporting them in raising their children with deep care, while continually cultivating environments where connection comes first.

Her background in child development and education, alongside training in integrative somatic trauma therapy, continues to shape the way she understands behavior, regulation, and the importance of safe, attuned relationships in early life.

During her pregnancy, as she imagined the life ahead for her son, she found herself reflecting deeply on the kind of childhood she hoped to offer him. Despite her background in education, there was a clear knowing in her body: the traditional school system was not something she would entrust with what felt most precious.

By many measures, she had done very well in school. But what stayed with her wasn’t what she learned academically—it was how it felt to be there. The pressure. The anxiety. The ways she often did not feel safe, seen, or understood.

She couldn’t ignore the reality of sending her child away for the majority of each day, into environments shaped by broken systems that often ask too much of both children and the adults responsible for them. Classrooms where teachers are often overextended and under-supported. Where children spend majority of their day indoors, seated, moving through busy work that begins to dim their natural curiosity.

Spaces where social dynamics are influenced by a rapidly changing culture, one shaped by technology, overstimulation, and disconnection. Where it can be difficult for young children to feel true belonging and safety without compromising who they are.

That didn’t sit right.

So Wildhood bloomed from a simple question:

If there was a pathway that truly honored and uplifted the child, what would that look like?

Not just for her child, but for all children and for the families who love them.

Wildhood School is an answer to that question: a space where childhood is honored, connection comes first, and imagination is held as sacred. A place where a love for learning unfurls naturally and days are spent outdoors which supports all of our well-being.

It is a space where families are supported and inspired as they raise their children alongside one another, weaving together a sense of community care and belonging. A living, growing offering rooted in trust, emotional attunement , and a deep respect for the inner world of every child.

Wildhood is the offering she believes every child deserves.
